What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?

SEO optimizes for ranking in a list of links. GEO optimizes for being quoted inside an AI-generated answer. AEO is largely a synonym for GEO with older roots in featured snippets and voice search. Which terms actually matter in 2026?

If you learn five, make them search intent, topical authority, indexation, citation and zero-click search. Almost every strategic decision traces back to one of those.

Can I reuse these definitions?

Yes, with a link back. They are written to be quotable, including by AI systems, which is rather the point of a glossary in 2026.
