SERP snippet preview

See how your title and meta description will look in Google, measured in pixels rather than characters, because pixels are how Google actually truncates.

Google truncates titles at roughly 580 pixels and descriptions at roughly 990, which is why character counts mislead: a title of capital letters truncates far sooner than one of narrow lowercase letters. Type below and the preview updates as you go.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored.

Your results appear here as soon as you change a value.

How to use it

  1. Paste your real title and description Not the one you wish you had written. The preview shows the truncation point immediately.
  2. Front-load the keyword and the benefit Whatever falls after the ellipsis does not exist as far as the searcher is concerned.
  3. Write the description for the queries where it survives Google rewrites descriptions on the majority of results. It keeps yours more often when it matches the query closely.
  4. Check the URL slug too Google shows a breadcrumb-style path. Long, parameter-heavy URLs read badly in the result.

How the numbers work

Everything here runs in JavaScript in your browser. No input is sent anywhere, nothing is stored, and there is no account, no email gate and no export limit. The maths is deliberately simple so you can check it: where a benchmark is used, the source is named on the page rather than hidden behind a "based on industry data" claim.

Where this calculator uses published research, it uses these: the position-CTR meta-analysis from First Page Sage (updated May 2025), the 34.5% AI Overview click reduction measured by Ahrefs across 300,000 keywords, and Pew Research Center's click-behaviour study. Tool prices come from vendor pricing pages read on 2 August 2026. All of them are averages, and averages are a starting point, not a forecast: your own Search Console data beats every benchmark on this page.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a title tag be?

Under roughly 580 pixels, which is about 55 to 60 characters depending on the letters. Capitals and wide characters eat the budget faster, which is exactly why a pixel measurement beats a character count.

How long should a meta description be?

Around 150 to 160 characters, or under about 990 pixels. Google rewrites descriptions most of the time, so put the reason to click in the first 120 characters where it will survive.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects click-through rate, which affects how much traffic a given ranking is worth. On a page-one ranking that is a meaningful difference.
