AI SEO ROI calculator
Work out whether an AI SEO subscription pays for itself, using your own traffic, conversion rate and deal size instead of a vendor's case study.
An AI SEO tool pays for itself when the extra organic revenue it produces exceeds the subscription plus the hours you still spend on it. Enter your numbers below and the calculator returns your monthly break-even, the extra sessions you need to reach it, and a ramped first-year net figure.
The tool
Your results appear here as soon as you change a value.
How to use it
- Enter your current organic sessions Take the last full month from Search Console or Analytics. Organic only: paid and direct traffic will not respond to an SEO tool.
- Set a realistic growth expectation Vendor case studies quote outliers. A site that publishes consistently for a year typically sees a 30 to 60% lift, and a site with no content foundation sees more in percentage terms but from a tiny base.
- Include your own time honestly The most common error in this calculation is pricing the subscription and forgetting the six hours a month you spend editing. Time is the larger cost in most small teams.
- Read the break-even, not the ROI The useful output is the number of extra sessions a month you need to cover the cost. If that figure is larger than your current traffic, the tool is not the constraint: distribution is.
How the numbers work
Everything here runs in JavaScript in your browser. No input is sent anywhere, nothing is stored, and there is no account, no email gate and no export limit. The maths is deliberately simple so you can check it: where a benchmark is used, the source is named on the page rather than hidden behind a "based on industry data" claim.
Where this calculator uses published research, it uses these: the position-CTR meta-analysis from First Page Sage (updated May 2025), the 34.5% AI Overview click reduction measured by Ahrefs across 300,000 keywords, and Pew Research Center's click-behaviour study. Tool prices come from vendor pricing pages read on 2 August 2026. All of them are averages, and averages are a starting point, not a forecast: your own Search Console data beats every benchmark on this page.
Frequently asked questions
How long before AI SEO software pays for itself?
For most small sites, somewhere between month four and month nine, because organic growth ramps rather than switching on. The calculator models a linear ramp over twelve months, which is why the year-one figure is half the annualised number.
What growth rate should I assume?
Lower than the vendor suggests. Thirty to fifty per cent over twelve months is a defensible planning number for a site that publishes consistently and has some existing authority. New domains grow faster in percentage terms and slower in absolute traffic.
Should I count my own time as a cost?
Yes, and it is usually the biggest line. A $99 tool that needs ten hours of editing a month costs $699 at a $60 hourly rate. That is the number to compare against an agency retainer, not the $99.
