Rich result

Definition. A rich result is a search result enhanced beyond a title, URL and description: star ratings, product prices, recipe times, event dates, breadcrumbs. Eligibility comes from valid structured data, but Google decides whether to show it.

Valid markup makes you eligible and guarantees nothing. Google has narrowed which sites see certain rich results, FAQ results being the clearest example.

Rich results generally lift click-through rate where they appear, which is why they remain worth the markup even with no ranking effect.
