Programmatic SEO
Definition. Programmatic SEO is generating many pages from a structured data source and a template, typically to cover query patterns such as 'X in Y' or 'A vs B' at scale. It works when the data is genuinely useful and fails loudly when the pages are templated filler.
The requirement people skip is the data asset. If each generated page contains nothing a reader could not get from any competitor, the pattern is doorway pages with extra steps.
Failures are usually total rather than partial: search engines devalue the whole pattern, not individual URLs, which is why an entire subfolder disappears at once.
