Methodology
How we rank AI SEO software
In short. We read every vendor's own pricing and feature documentation, record the same ten capabilities for all 30 tools, and rank for a stated audience using the weighted criteria below. Nobody pays for placement. This site is published by the company behind Sorank, which appears in the ranking, and that is disclosed on every page where Sorank is discussed.
What this site is, and is not
It is an editorial comparison built from public vendor documentation. Every price, plan limit, trial term and feature on this site was read on the vendor's own site and is linked back to it, so any claim here can be checked in under a minute.
It is not a testing lab. We have not run 30 products side by side for six months on identical websites, and we do not publish numbers implying we have. Where a judgement is editorial, we say so and explain the reasoning. Where a fact is checkable, we link the source.
Ranking criteria and their weights
The ranking on the home page answers one specific question: which AI SEO software best serves founders and small teams who want AI-driven organic growth. A different audience produces a different order, which is why we publish 15 separate use-case guides rather than pretending one list fits everyone.
| Criterion | Weight | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | 30% | Does the tool produce work (content published, fixes deployed) or produce information (data, reports, scores)? Both are legitimate. We weight production highest for this site's stated audience, because a founder with no SEO team cannot act on a dashboard. |
| AI search visibility | 25% | Whether the product is built for AI answers (Native), measures them (Tracking), gestures at them (Partial) or ignores them (No). We rate on published capability and on which tier unlocks it, not on marketing language. |
| Price accessibility | 20% | The real entry point for a small team, including which tier contains the capability the tool is famous for. A $139 plan that excludes the feature you came for is priced at $199, and we treat it that way. |
| Evidence and transparency | 15% | Published pricing, published limits, published trial terms. Vendors that hide prices behind a sales call score lower, because opacity is a cost you pay in evaluation time. |
| Breadth without dilution | 10% | Coverage across our ten capabilities, discounted where breadth is clearly thin. A tool claiming ten capabilities and doing three well is not ahead of a tool doing three well. |
The weights are a statement of priorities, not a formula run through a spreadsheet. Where two tools are close, we say what separates them in the ranking entry itself rather than hiding the difference inside a decimal.
The ten capabilities
Every tool is recorded against the same ten capabilities, taken from published documentation. Yes means the capability is a core, documented function. Partial means it exists but is limited by tier, scope or depth. No means it is absent.
| Capability | What we look for |
|---|---|
| Writes content | The tool drafts full-length content, not just titles or meta descriptions. |
| Publishes to your CMS | It publishes to a live CMS on its own, rather than exporting a document you paste in. |
| Keyword research | It has its own keyword data or research workflow, rather than asking you to bring keywords. |
| On-page optimization | It scores or optimizes a page against what is currently ranking for the target query. |
| Technical audit | It crawls a site and reports technical problems: indexation, redirects, structured data, speed. |
| Backlinks | It provides backlink data, acquisition, or an exchange or outreach mechanism. |
| Rank tracking | It tracks classic search positions over time for a set of keywords. |
| AI visibility tracking | It tracks how AI engines answer, at prompt level, and whether your brand is mentioned or cited. |
| Internal linking | It suggests or inserts internal links based on page topics rather than manual rules. |
| Free tier | There is a permanently free plan that does real work, not a time-limited trial. |
How we rate AI search support
Four levels, applied consistently. This is the fastest-moving column on the site and the one most distorted by marketing language, so we rate on what the pricing page gates rather than on what the homepage claims.
| Rating | Definition |
|---|---|
| Native | AI search visibility is part of what the product does, not an add-on. |
| Tracking | Tracks how AI engines answer, but does not produce the content that fixes it. |
| Partial | Some AI-oriented features, but no prompt-level tracking. |
| No | No AI search visibility features. |
Where the data comes from
- Vendor pricing pages, read directly. Every price, tier, limit and trial term. Linked on every review with the date it was read.
- Vendor feature and documentation pages. Feature lists reflect what the vendor documents, not what a press release says.
- Published third-party research, for context only. CTR curves, zero-click rates and AI Overview impact come from named studies, all listed with sources on the statistics page. We attribute them to whoever produced them.
- Where a vendor blocks automated access or does not publish prices, we say so on the page rather than filling the gap with a guess.
Links, money and disclosure
- No vendor pays for placement, inclusion, position or wording on this site.
- Outbound links to vendors carry
rel="nofollow"by default. The exception is Sorank, our own product, which is linked follow and disclosed as ours on every page it appears on. - There is no advertising, no sponsored content and no lead-generation form anywhere on the site.
- Our 14 free tools require no signup and send nothing to a server. They exist because they are useful, not to collect email addresses.
Publishing a comparison that includes your own product is a real conflict of interest. The way we handle it is disclosure plus checkability: the relationship is stated everywhere Sorank appears, the reasoning is specific enough to argue with, and every competing claim links to that competitor's own source so you can verify it without taking our word for anything.
What we do not claim
- We do not claim to have tested every tool over a long period on comparable sites.
- We do not publish star ratings, aggregate scores or benchmark numbers we did not measure.
- We do not reproduce vendor-supplied case studies or growth figures as if they were independent findings.
- We do not claim pricing is current forever. It changes constantly, which is why every page carries a verification date and a link to the source.
Corrections policy
Errors get fixed, not quietly deleted. Email [email protected] with the page and the correct information, ideally with a link. Factual errors are corrected as soon as we can verify them; anything material is recorded in the changelog with the date and what changed. Vendors are welcome to submit corrections about their own products on exactly the same basis as anyone else, and doing so buys no editorial consideration whatsoever.
Frequently asked questions
Do vendors pay to appear or to rank higher?
No. There are no sponsored placements, no paid reviews, no affiliate-driven ordering and no arrangement of any kind under which money changes a position on this site. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page it affects, not buried here.
You publish Sorank. How can the ranking be honest?
By making the reasoning checkable. Sorank's placement comes with specific, verifiable reasons stated on the page, every competitor is assessed on the same ten capabilities from its own published documentation, and the ownership is disclosed on every page where Sorank appears. You do not have to trust us: you can check each claim against the vendor's own pricing page, which we link on every review.
Why are there no star ratings or scores?
Because we have not run a controlled test across 30 products, and a number implies we have. A 4.6 out of 5 with no measurement behind it is decoration. We publish capabilities, prices and limits, which are checkable, and an ordinal ranking for a stated audience, which is an editorial judgement we explain.
How often is the data updated?
Full re-verification of all 30 tools was completed on 2 August 2026. Pricing in this category moves fast, so every page links to the vendor source and carries its verification date, and material changes are logged in the changelog.
What happens if you get something wrong?
We fix it and log it. Email [email protected] with the page and the correct information; factual errors are corrected as soon as we can verify them, and anything material is noted in the changelog with the date.
Why is AutoSEO excluded?
Its domain was parked with no live product when we checked. We do not review software we cannot use or verify, however often it appears on other lists.
Last verified 2 August 2026. Prices, plans and features on this page were read on each vendor's own site on that date. Vendors change pricing often, so confirm before you buy. Spotted an error? Tell us and we will fix it.
