AI SEO statistics for 2026
How to read this page. Every figure below links to the organisation that produced it. We have measured none of these ourselves, and where we read a number on an aggregator rather than the original source, we say so on the line. If a statistic anywhere on the internet has no source attached, assume someone rounded it up.

Using these figures
Three cautions, because statistics in this field are recycled carelessly. First, most of these are averages across enormous, heterogeneous samples: the zero-click rate for your query mix is almost certainly not 68%. Second, they date fast, and a 2024 figure quoted in 2026 as current is worse than no figure. Third, several widely repeated AI SEO statistics have no traceable primary source at all, which is why this page is shorter than the "100+ statistics" roundups.
For your own numbers rather than industry averages, the AI Overview traffic impact simulator applies the published CTR reduction to your actual click totals, and the traffic forecast calculator uses the position-CTR curve on your own keywords.
Frequently asked questions
What percentage of Google searches end without a click?
68.01% of US Google searches ended without a click in the first four months of 2026, according to SparkToro's analysis of Similarweb clickstream data. That is up from 60.45% in 2024, a rise of 7.56 percentage points in two years.
How much traffic do AI Overviews actually take?
Ahrefs measured a 34.5% lower click-through rate for the top-ranking page when an AI Overview is present, across 300,000 keywords. Pew Research Center separately found that only about 8% of visits to a results page carrying an AI summary produced a click to any source, against roughly 15% without one.
Is AI-generated content penalised by Google?
No, not for being AI-generated. Google's documentation states that automation is not against its guidelines. The applicable spam policy is scaled content abuse, which targets mass-producing content primarily to manipulate rankings, by any method including human writing.
Can I cite these statistics?
Yes, and please cite the original researcher rather than this page: every figure links to the study or company that produced it. We have not measured any of these numbers ourselves and we do not present ourselves as having done so.
