Definition. Fact-checking AI content means verifying every checkable claim against a primary source before publication: numbers, dates, prices, names, quotations and study findings. It is the step that separates AI-assisted content that earns citations from AI output that damages a domain.
The efficient method is to extract every factual claim into a list, then verify each one, rather than reading for accuracy while also reading for style. The two passes catch different problems.
Prefer primary sources. A model that read a blog post about a study will reproduce that blog post's error.
Where a claim cannot be verified, delete the number rather than softening it. 'Studies suggest' attached to an unverifiable figure is worse than no figure.
