Organic traffic forecast calculator
See how many clicks a keyword is worth at each position, with and without an AI Overview on the page, using published CTR data.
Moving from position 8 to position 3 on a 2,400-search keyword is worth roughly 200 extra clicks a month on a clean SERP, and around 130 when an AI Overview is present. Enter your keyword's volume and your current and target positions to see the full curve.
The tool
Your results appear here as soon as you change a value.
How to use it
- Use a real volume figure From your keyword tool of choice. Volumes are estimates everywhere, so treat the output as an order of magnitude.
- Check whether an AI Overview triggers Search the keyword. If a summary appears above the results, tick the box: it changes the forecast by roughly a third.
- Set an achievable target Position 1 is not a plan. Moving from page two to positions 4 to 6 is usually the realistic first step, and the calculator shows that is where most of the gain sits.
- Sanity-check with your own data Search Console gives you your actual CTR for this query. That number beats every published average, and you already have it.
How the numbers work
Everything here runs in JavaScript in your browser. No input is sent anywhere, nothing is stored, and there is no account, no email gate and no export limit. The maths is deliberately simple so you can check it: where a benchmark is used, the source is named on the page rather than hidden behind a "based on industry data" claim.
Where this calculator uses published research, it uses these: the position-CTR meta-analysis from First Page Sage (updated May 2025), the 34.5% AI Overview click reduction measured by Ahrefs across 300,000 keywords, and Pew Research Center's click-behaviour study. Tool prices come from vendor pricing pages read on 2 August 2026. All of them are averages, and averages are a starting point, not a forecast: your own Search Console data beats every benchmark on this page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good CTR for position 1?
Published meta-analyses put position one around 39.8% on a clean SERP, but the variance is enormous: brand queries can exceed 60% and heavily featured SERPs fall below 20%. Your own Search Console CTR is the number that matters.
Do these CTR figures include AI Overviews?
The base curve is a clean-SERP average. Ticking the AI Overview box applies the 34.5% reduction Ahrefs measured, which is the best published figure for that effect.
Why is my actual CTR lower than the forecast?
Usually one of four reasons: ads above you, a featured snippet or AI summary taking the answer, a title that does not match the query intent, or a SERP feature such as a video carousel pushing you down the visible page.
